down

After climbing the stairs

For what seemed like forever

I reach the top

I look down and I see people

Lots of them

Some of them are staring at me

Others too busy with their lives to care

They can’t believe that I’m doing this

I am an adult

I’m supposed to be mature

And make logical decisions

They are shouting

Asking me to get down

But I can’t

It took a lot of courage

And this is my final decision

I’m going to do this

Finally put an end to what this world thinks of me

I take a deep breath

I see my daughter standing below

In the crowd of unfamiliar faces

I recognise hers

She’s scared

Just like everyone else

I inhale again

And blow air out through my mouth

It was time

I look down one last time

Then close my eyes

With my head towards the sky

And the wind in my face

I go down

It was so peaceful

So slow

Not a worry in the world

I felt free.

I land with a thud

I open my eyes

And see my daughter’s face

She’s smiling

I smile too

Just like everyone else

Who said we couldn’t go down a slide at 32?

  1. I feel as if I am in deep silence after the storm has passed out.

    Simply beautiful…..

I love to see my mom always up for experimenting and adapting to change. She has a child in her.
And I feel I have matured before my age.

    🙂 🙂

    Lovely post.

      1. Well yeah, I think what I mean there is that certain things in life we’ve always wanted to do. We just never did. So now the narrator has finally gathered up the courage to do something that s/he always thought about doing, irrespective of what the society thinks. The opposition is strong, but the will power is stronger. Her daughter is scared because what if her parent fails? What if they make a fool of themselves? The rest of the people are scared because someone is attempting something that is against societal norms. Someone if following their heart, this idea scares them.

This is the actual meaning of those lines..
I hope I made sense to you?

    1. Hey thank you for this lovely comment!!🌺
Honestly, nothing. I was just sitting in my room thinking about nothing and this idea just popped up in my head out of nowhere!
Now maybe this came from some long forgotten idea/event, I do not know. Most likely not.
I was just doing nothing.. and to be honest, I’m wondering myself, what did inspire me to think this up!🙈
